SPECTRUM's Aging With Pride Committee was established in 2013 to address the needs of aging members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. In 2017, Aging With Pride received a $25,000 New Horizons for Seniors Program grant from the government of Canada which enabled the Committee to create and implement various programs with facilities in Waterloo Region. As part of this, volunteers with the Aging with Pride Committee visited and met with residents at many senior centres and retirement communities and helped to deliver many of these programs. Some of these programs included educational presentations, hosting dinners, and even helping to host drag shows performed at local retirement homes.

Timeline: On 2016, August 4, SPECTRUM's Aging with Pride Committee submitted an application to the federal New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) for the grant in question. On 2017, March 1, SPECTRUM was notified that the request for the $25,000 grant to the NHSP had been approved. This was a major development in SPECTRUM's history, since the grant was by far the largest grant that SPECTRUM had received to this point. The cheque to cover the funding was received on 2017, March 31. The following day, a decision to hire Stevie Forbes-Roberts. as Project Lead was made by SPECTRUM's Board. Work began shortly after that in April and continued for the next 12 months. At the beginning of the Project, SPECTRUM worked with Raj Saini (the MP representing the riding where SPECTRUM was located) to create a media event to announce the grant and the project being funded at an Open House on 2017, May 28 (Sunday). The photo gallery here has many images from that event. Dignitaries present included Raj Saini (MP for Kitchener Centre), Bardish Chagger (MP for Waterloo), Catherine Fife, (MPP for Waterloo), Waterloo Major Dave Jaworsky, and several others. Entertainment was provided by spoken word artist Beth Murch and singer/songwriter Sojna Malton.
