2011, March 14 (Monday) * Grand River Rainbow Community Historical Project Begins

The Grand River Rainbow Community Historical Project was begun on 2011, March 14. The short-term goal was to create a website including a variety of interesting local historical detail a few weeks before the various Pride celebrations in late Spring and in Summer. The long-term goal was the formation of a local rainbow historical society to be entrusted with the administration of the Project.

The designation "Grand River" was intended to make it clear that the communities of Waterloo Region and Wellington County are both included, whilst leaving open some leeway to include communities in other areas of Ontario that are adjacent to the Grand River or some of its tributaries.

Information for a simple chronological listing of events in the local rainbow communities was initially assembled using materials previously compiled by various hands since the early 1970s, and supplemented by adding new information from documents at hand. Around the same time an appeal for information was made to members of the Rainbow List; valuable information was gained in this way as well.
