2006, October 7 (Saturday) * The Record: Counselling centre chided for giving space to gay group

Counselling centre chided for giving space to gay group This article by Brian Whitwham reports that the Catholic Family Counselling Centre is once again under attack by social conservatices. It goes on to say that “Defend Traditioal Marriage and Family, a local organization, has delivered an open letter to the centre on behalf of its Catholic members. The letter asks the centre to stop providing meeting space to a gay rights organization called tri-Pride.” The spokesperson for the complaining group, Jack Fonseca, was concerned at this kind of support for “the gay agenda.” The Executive Director for the counselling centre responded “I find it astonishing in this day and age to see that kind of rejection and judgment.” She went on to say that the word “Catholic” in the name of the centre is an historical reference and that the organization is now non-denominational, and is firm in its commitment to remain inclusive. Dave Bell, tri-Pride Board chair indicated that he was “frustrated by the note and he felt bad for the centre.”

2006 * WLU Rainbow Centre

The website for this WLU support service (www.mylaurier.ca/rainbow/) was first crawled by the Wayback Machine on 2006, November 14, and makes a reference to August 28, 2006. Given that the website for the predecessor for this group, GLOBAL, was last accessed by the Wayback Machine on 2006, March 20, it seems certain that the transition from GLOBAL (a WLU organization), to the WLU Rainbow Centre (a support service of WLU) occurred in 2006 prior to September.
